It's that time of year again. It's amazing what magic January brings such that hope and desire are revived in us all. I'd like to think I'm in the odd 10% of people who stick to their new years resolutions. But though I have been successful at some things in the past (for example: my recipe book has become much larger in the last two years, and up until a few months ago I actually went to the gym 3 or 4 times a week!), I have also been known to forget about the resolutions that just didn't quite fit into my schedule after March. My piano sits upstairs covered in dust. My bookshelf (for the most part) remains untouched. It's not that I don't want to read or practice, it's just that I don't think about it and I let my mind wander for far too long on the internet, or I come home from work exhausted and can't think about Chopin, let alone getting some pasta water to boil.
So I decided that my new years resolution this year could be simple. It's as simple as updating a blog 4 times a month. For the next 52 weeks, I will be tasting and trying new things, traveling to new places, and learning along the way. I want to eat new foods (and cook them myself!). I want to try new sports and activities. I want to have my own garden. And to complete the list, I want to explore the country (near, and hopefully, far).
Now all I have to do is change the words "I want to" to "I will". And that's part of why I'm keeping a blog. I have a bad habit of wanting to be dependable. I'm a do-er, not a say-er. So now that I've proclaimed this to the masses (er, my few wonderful followers), I have to do it. I will try new things. I will cook new foods. And I will go to new places.
Oh the places I'll go.
